How does Affirm™ Multiplex™ system work?
The Cynosure Affirm Anti-Aging workstation includes a Xenon Pulsed Light (XPL, 560 nm-950 nm), and the 1440-nm wavelength that can be used alone or combined in Multiplex mode with the 1320-nm wavelength. This system can target all three layers of photo-damaged tissue. The shallow (epidermal and elastosis region) elements are targeted with the 1440-nm Nd:YAG. In addition, the XPL range of wavelengths treats the pigmentation and redness that are also part of the photo aging process, producing highly efficient results with minimal downtime. The Affirm laser pulses are delivered via Combined Apex Pulse (CAP) technology, through a state of the art lens arrays, that with only modest cooling results in treatment that better preserves the epidermis. The Affirm has the ability to deliver a better outcome and faster results with less pain compared to other laser resurfacing products. It is also a very safe procedure that causes little discomfort compared to similar forms of treatment. This treatment is most commonly performed on the face and neck, but can also successfully be used on the chest, arms, hands and knees. This non-ablative cosmetic treatment can improve the skin’s appearance in any of these areas that have been damaged over time by targeting all layers of photo damaged and aged skin, eliminating vascular lesions, pigmentation areas and reduce scarring.

Most clients will notice an improvement after their second treatment, but to get the best results, 4-6 Laser Skin Renewal treatments with four week intervals may be required for full face, neck or chest area.

What results can I expect?
You can expect to see a decrease in the appearance of brown spots, sun damage and wrinkles resulting in a smoother, more even skin tone. Patients treated with the Affirm laser usually have noticeably improved skin after three to four sessions. Occasionally, the patient my experience some slight redness, but there is generally little to no downtime associated with the use of the Affirm laser, so patients can resume their normal daily activities immediately following treatment. Wearing sunscreen is always recommended after a laser treatment to protect sensitive areas as well as maintain its results.
Is there any downtime?
There is no significant downtime associated after the treatment with the Affirm. Unlike the traditional laser resurfacing, there is no significant redness or swelling. The Affirm causes only a redness that resembles a normal sunburn. You can expect this to fade away within 48 hours, and then your skin returns to its normal condition and tone. After only a few days, your skin will be smoother and look healthier.
