Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) is a minimally invasive non-surgical, non ablative procedure for facial rejuvenation. The treatment promotes the natural reproduction of collagen and elastin, making the skin feels smoother and tighter. Creating only microscopic punctures in the epidermis, CIT is minimally invasive with little damage to the epidermis which means the collagen production is significantly quicker than some other more aggressive treatments. The Collagen Induction Therapy is used for reducing fine lines and wrinkles, melisma, skin tightening, stretch marks, reducing scars such as acne, surgery or hypertrophic scars. CIT is suitable for all skin types and all areas of the face, neck, décolletage and hands.
How does Collagen Induction Therapy work?
During treatment, the microneedling device penetrates the upper layers of the skin to a depth of 0.5 to 1.5 mm to create numerous tiny openings, prompting the body to create new collagen and elastin fibers. In response to the stimulus, the skin plumps and firms, reducing the appearance of scars, fine lines, and wrinkles. CIT results are significantly quicker than some other more aggressive treatments. A course of 3 treatment sessions is usually recommended, with five to six weeks intervals. CIT naturally stimulates collagen and elastin production in the skin without damaging it, to create smoother, tighter, healthier and younger looking skin.
What does CIT feel like?
The feeling associated with the procedure is similar to light sandpaper being moved across the skin. Typically, CIT is a little uncomfortable with depths needed for scar reduction, but this is managed easily with a topical numbing gel placed on the skin prior to treatment. Lighter treatments are compared to brushing sandpaper across the skin.
How many CIT treatments are required?
Collagen Induction Therapy can be safely repeated every 4-6 weeks until you achieve the desired results. For collagen induction, we recommend a course of 3 treatments, with a minimum separation time of 4 to 6 weeks between treatments. For scar reduction, an average of 3 to 6 treatments are recommended.
How long does the treatment take?
It takes 15-30 minutes depending on the size of the area treated.
Is there any downtime?
CIT naturally stimulates collagen and elastin production in the skin without damaging it, to create smoother, tighter, healthier and younger looking skin. Most people will experience redness and mild swelling in a similar way as mild sunburn for 24-48 hours.
